Congratulations to Callie Lowery, who competed in the District 9 Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 24. Callie did an outstanding job representing Irwin County, finishing in 2nd placeand earning the spot of the runner-up. Callie will compete in the Georgia State Spelling Bee to be held March 16 at the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains, Georgia. "We are so proud of Callie and wish her the best as she moves on in the competition," said Middle School Coordinator Maria Johnson.

The 1-877-SAY-STOP toll-free hotline was created by the Georgia Department of Education. Students can anonymously report anyone who has a weapon, has threatened to bring a weapon to school, or has violated any other school safety rules. The hotline hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; after 5 p.m. all calls will be forwarded to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Callers will not be asked to reveal their identities.
