The Irwin County Cross Country teams competed in different races this past week. The Irwin County High School boys and girls team competed in THE RED FLAME CLASSIC in Wilcox County on Thursday, October 10th. Both guys and girls were able to qualify as a team. All runners did great despite having breaks due to Hurricane Hellene.
Anthony Battle and Jonathan Mobley got a season PERSONAL RECORD for themselves. All of the other runners beat their previous times from when the team ran in Wilcox in August.
There were 28 Male teams with over 200 runners and 23 girls teams with over 160 runners represented. Both races had schools from VARIOUS region classifications. Wilcox County will be one of the hosting courses for this year's sectionals meet. Due to the number of runners that qualified for state last year within their Regions, GHSA decided to bring back sectional races. Irwin Will compete against 1A Div 2 in regions 1-4. This brings a new competitive edge to the sport. You could be a REGION champion, but still not advance to state. The top 12 teams and the first 20 individual runners will advance to the STATE meet in Carrollton.
Irwin will compete in Sectionals on November 2nd at 1:00 pm, with the girls beginning at 1:45 pm, in Wilcox County. We would love for anyone who would like to spectate to come on out. You must have a ticket from GOFAN to spectate at the race. Please check social media/emails for details and updates!
