Georgia Middle School State Cross Country Championships
The Middle School Cross Country team competed this weekend (Oct 12th) in the Georgia Middle School State Cross Country Championships. We were missing a few of our runners for this race. Bleckley County Cross Country holds this meet yearly for the middle school students to SHOWCASE their achievements for the year in preparation for their future.
This course is known for its rolling hills and is similar to high school state finals in Carrollton. Schools are placed in divisions based on the school FTE count. Irwin Co was placed in one of the most attended divisions with 19 teams and 130+ runners for the boys and 15 teams with 110+ runners for the girls.
Our teams did EXTREMELY WELL in both races! Several students were able to beat their previous times from August.
Willow Holt was able to get a season PR for herself. Our runners Eva Raffield and Natalie Harper, showed great sportsmanship on the course by helping a fellow competitor, who had fallen in the middle of the race, sacrificing their times to ensure a fellow competitor was okay!
We are VERY proud of their compassion for others! Our Middle Schoolers are "done" for the season, but we can't wait to see them continue to do great things in the future!
We will have an interest/sign up meeting sometime in the spring! Great job Middle Schoolers on ALL of your accomplishments!
