Reducing Illegal Passing of School Buses
Safe enforcement technology saves lives. School bus stop-arm safety cameras are one of the many tools school districts utilize to maximize their efforts in increasing school bus safety. Their number one priority is to protect children as they ride school buses to and from school every day. #NSBSW2022
Everyone has seen that flashing school bus stop-arm urging drivers to stop so the bus’s young passengers can get on or off safely. Studies show that thousands of motorists disregard these stop-arms every school day, unnecessarily putting children, bus drivers, and other motorists at risk. Vehicles illegally passing stopped school buses caused an estimated two-thirds of school bus loading and unloading fatalities. Additionally, according to the American School Bus Council, more school-age children are killed from 7-8 am and 3-4 pm than any other time of the day. The following video shows that these incidents occur more than you think. https://youtu.be/bejKP6MdJ4c Safety is the responsibility of everyone. This report card highlights the issues we face today and the solutions available to solve them. Through education and enforcement, we have the power to see positive change in our communities.

Happy Boss's Day!
Irwin County Schools supports National School Bus Safety Week and its important message for drivers to stop for school buses as students enter and exit the bus. This year’s annual campaign, which emphasizes
safe driving behavior, will take place Oct. 17-21. “National School Bus Safety Week is a prime opportunity to remind drivers to obey traffic laws around school buses. Our children are most vulnerable when boarding or disembarking their school bus, which is why drivers are required to stop,” said XXX , Superintendent. “Each day, our children’s safety is our top concern.
Please inform your friends and family of this important initiative and help us “Zero in on Bus Safety!” #NSBSW2022 #ZeroInOnBusSafety
